Garlic

Garlic is widely used as a seasoning in our food. But its medicinal properties have been known even in ancient times. Research proves that garlic has many health benefits and curative properties. It boosts the immune system and helps fight disease. Dr. H. K. Bakhru, a naturopath, who has written several books on nature cure recommends it as one of the plants that fight cancer.

There are other health benefits of garlic which include removing of toxins from our body, preventing heart ailments, fortifying the bones, preventing brain diseases and other ailments. I have used it to treat colds and found that it greatly reduced the symptoms of cold.

Garlic is used in folk medicine too. Some communities of the Khasi and Jaintia tribes pin garlic cloves on babies to ward off evil eyes. Our elders tell us that it repels snakes by its smell. Those who find garlic pungent to taste might try roasting it on fire before consuming. It tastes different too. But then, personal tastes differ and so I prefer it raw. (Do not kiss your partner after taking raw garlic. She/He may find the smell repulsive)
